Now, the sermon was pretty good, although he mentioned Jesus only a few times, he spoke about the 10 commandments and how everyone of us has broke them and in Exodus all the way through, I think Numbers God gives us 613 laws. As if 10 Commandments weren't hard enough, the extra 603 laws knock us off balance with God. Reassuring our need for Jesus. This reminded me to humble myself, pride ALWAYS results in destruction, at least when the pride has myself as the focal point. In Exodus chapter 19 God tells the people He has delivered from Egypt to follow Him and keep the covenant He will keep them as His special treasure. in verse 8 they tell God CERTAINLY. 40 Days later they are worshipping a Golden Calf. Oh dear. His main point was to prepare yourself. You may not know what God has planned for you, but you can shake the dust out of your clothes and prepare yourself to meet the Lord. When He gives instructions you want to be ready, just as you make things right with people before coming before the altar.
Do I plan to go back to the church? Doubt it.
Did I enjoy my time there? Yes.
The ministry God has put on my heart is focused on the teachings of Jesus and the focal pint is people, not just the Body of Christ, but the House of the Lord. Everything that belongs to Him --the entire world. Therefore, I will keep looking for a church that shares my passion. I'm not saying one way is better than the other. I'm just saying a person's heart Is their GPS and God is the destination, listen for the directions from your heart and follow them. We're not robots, we're Christians, God has a plan for EACH one of us. I'm listening to His plan for me. Are you?
Hope this is a little inspiration. God Bless ya'll live for Him. Jesu. (Nuff Said)
Hey Ryan, one of my favorite things EVER is going to new churches. Since I'm pretty involved in my own, I only get to do this while we're on vacation. We've had some great experiences. In November we were in Maui and we went to a church that had this big sign on top saying "Jesus...coming soon!" We thought that was hysterical, like some ad for a Jesus movie so we decided to check it out. Sure enough it was ALL about Jesus. Christ and him crucified. You'd have loved it. And same as your experience everyone really dressed up & our family in shorts/flip-flops. And because we were visitors they marched us right up front in a special row!
ReplyDeleteOf In 2005 we were in Maui for Easter and it turned out to be the most beautiful ever for us. There was a 150 yr old Congregational church just a short stroll from our hotel & as we're walking to church they began to ring the church bells. It was an outside service and they handed everyone a different tropical flower on the way in. Up front was a tall, wire cross and at one point in the service they had everyone file up and place their flower on the cross, so when we were done it had turned into this beautiful cross made up of all the unique & colorful flowers. Part of the service was in Hawaiian which was really cool. We still have the bulletin that says how to say "Jesus loves you" and the Lord's Prayer in Hawaiian. At the end of the service they released all these white doves into the incredibly blue sky - wow.
Probably our funniest experience was last year in Phoenix we showed up at a church and realize everyone going in was black, and they were having a special brunch that day so they wanted to feed us. They were so gracious to us even thought we're dressed to go to a baseball game after church and they were completely decked out, from old to young. It was a great service and at one point their worship leader looked over at us and spoke prophetically about me, which was amazing.
There's nothing like meeting new family members in the kingdom of God. Isn't Heaven going to be a blast? Have fun checking out churches!
